Biljana Stefanovska (b. 1970, Macedonia) is an architect currently working as lecturer at the Technische Universität Darmstadt's Faculty of Architecture, while completing her PhD dissertation on cultural and climatic aspects in the transformations of dwelling structures. As a research associate she was also working in the fields of future-housing-visions and urban transformations, on interdisciplinary projects and she was the initiator of a project on the usage of architectural spaces in film. Furthermore, she has participated in several intercultural projects and workshops as lecturer or visiting professor (Kiel 2002, Barcelona 2004, Ohrid 2007, Menaggio 2008). She published a number of articles on architectural topics and is the co-author of the book ‘Erfindung Wohnen’ (2007) .

He is the author of Project Zagreb: Transition as Condition, Strategy and Practice (with Eve Blau, Actar 2007). In 2004–05 he held an Associate Professor position at Syracuse University. He was also a Visiting Professor at Syracuse University and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Ivan’s work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Quito Biennale, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and at Archmoscow. His current research investigates appropriations and misappropriations of the scientific method by postwar and contemporary architectural discourse and practice. |

Antonio Petrov is currently a Teaching Fellow at the Department of History of Art and Architecture, and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He holds degrees in Foreign Trade Business, Architecture and Urban Design from Germany, and a Master of Architecture II from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Antonio has been a Professor for History and Theory of Architecture and Urban Design, Architectural Design, Urban Design and Digital Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Iowa State University and Harvard University. In the Fall of 2009 he will be a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Architecture at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He also serves on the board of directors of Extension Gallery in Chicago http://www.extensiongallery.org and is an Editor of the Harvard Graduate School of Design Magazine “New Geographies” http://www.gsd.harvard.edu/academic/upd/agakhan/newgeographies/. His practice WAS http://wasx.org/ has won numerous international design competitions and is published and exhibited internationally. Currently he is finishing a publication “Motion of Matter: Of Disturbed Fundamentals and the Embrace of Strangeness and Indeterminate Dimensions.” His doctoral research http://www.gsd.harvard.edu/users/apetrov is concerned with the (Im)materiality and Spatial Presence of Mega- and Metachurches in North America, and aims to set up an analytical framework through which (church) architecture can be theorized and discussed in relation to Post-World War II precedents. Inspired by Peter Sloterdijk's theory of the nature of social relations, Antonio is interested in decoding what Sloterdijk calls "connected isolations" and how the architectural embodyment of society and culture is physically manifested in Metachurches and beyond. |

Marko Sančanin studied political science and architecture in Zagreb. He is the director of Platforma 9,81 – non profit Institute for Research in Architecture. Srdjan Jovanović Weiss’ books: Almost Architecture and Lost Highway Expedition explore architecture vis-à-vis emerging democratic processes of Europe’s South East. Weiss is an architect and founder of Normal Architecture Office as well as founding member of School of Missing Studies based in Philadelphia. He is building one of the houses in the new city of Ordos, in Inner Mongolia, selected by Herzog & de Meuron Architects and master planned by Ai Weiwei. Academically he is preparing a book on positive aspects of Balkanization supported by Research Architecture at Goldsmiths and currently he is Assistant Professor at Tyler School of Art_Architecture at Temple University giving lectures both at Harvard and University of Pennsylvania. His education includes masters from Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade and Harvard Graduate School of Design studying with Rem Koolhaas and Jacques Herzog. Weiss is one of the authors in Harvard Guide to Shopping edited by Koolhaas et. al. and he is currently collaborating with H&deM on the future of Haus der Kunst in Munich. www.thenao.net |

Maren Harnack is a fully qualified architect and urbanist who studied at the University of Stuttgart, the TU Delft and the London School of Economics. She has been involved in design projects on different scales and worked as assistant professor at TU Darmstadt. Currently she is working in the same position at the HafenCity University in Hamburg where she is completing her PhD on the development of large housing estates in London. In her research she focuses on urban transformation on the neighbourhood level and here her interdisciplinary background allows her to draws from a wide range of methods and has enabled her to contribute various projects funded by the German government. She has published a number of articles in the field of architecture and book chapters. In october 2008 she taught at the interdisciplinary workshop "Remapping Skopje" at the Tocka cultural centre.

Was born in 1963 in Meran, Südtirol (Italy). She studied philosophy and art history at the University of Vienna, and the history of architecture at Columbia University. Since 2002, she has taught the history and theory of architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She wrote for the Feuilleton of Neue Zürcher Zeitung from 1997-2002, and writes critiques and essays on architecture and urban development for the Austrian dailies Die Presse and Der Standard.

Ines Tolic graduated in Architecture (2004) at the IUAV University in Venice, with a dissertation about the video representation of post-war architecture in Zagreb, Croatia. 2009 PhD degree at The School for Advanced Studies in Venice with a dissertation about the reconstruction of Skopje after the 1963 earthquake (tutors Donatella Calabi and Jean-Louis Cohen).

Maximilian Hartmuth is an Austrian-born cultural historian currently based in Istanbul. He has studied Balkans History, Cultural Policy, and Cultural Heritage Management in Vienna, Belgrade, and Istanbul, and is presently working as teaching assistant for art and cultural history at Sabancı University in Istanbul, where he pursues his doctoral research on the social history of the artist in early modern Southeast Europe. Maximilian has been engaged with NGO work in the region, and maintains the weblog [BalkanCities] on urban affairs and architecture in Southeast Europe. He is an active participant in international conferences in Europe and overseas and has authored a number of articles dealing with the history of art and architecture of Southeast Europe, historiography and interpretations of the past, and the challenges and problems of cultural heritage management.
